Marloth Park: A Postcard from Carrie and Jim

If you know me, you know my birthday is a big deal to me. Such a big deal that we celebrate birthday MONTH, not just the day, or a weekend. Jim surprised me with a drive along the panoramic route and organized a hot air balloon ride. Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate for the hot air balloon ride, but who cares about canceled hot air balloon rides when you have Kruger right next door.

Quirks of Cape Town

All cities and countries have their quirks and Cape Town is no exception. Overall, we’ve enjoyed our time here and have found that it’s a city with a lot to offer: great climate, lots of outdoor activities, Western amenities, and quality of life at prices that are very reasonable compared to the US. It’s the quirks that really give this city some character, though!

How a Visit to Some Penguins Led to a South African Braai

Oh my goodness, penguin colonies are fantastic! Jim and I decided to head out to explore the two penguin colonies on the mainland.

African Penguins can only be found in Southern Africa and there are only 2 penguin colonies on the mainland of South Africa. The drive along the coast was breathtaking and just the breath of fresh air we needed after five days of city living. A break from the buildings, city noises, and smells(!) was welcomed.

Settling Into Cape Town

After four flights we arrived in Cape Town, South Africa. With back-to-back red-eyes and a seven hour layover in London, we’re very thankful for access to a lounge with fast wifi, free food, drinks, and showers! We'll be here until the third week of February. After arriving in mid-afternoon, we grabbed our rental car. Jim had to tap into his rusty stick-shift skills and adjust quickly to driving on the left. But he got us to our newest home—an Airbnb on Kloof St.
